Over 3,000 families across the West Midlands and surrounding counties trust us to cut their energy bills, with savings of 80–98% and a typical return on investment within 5–7 years.
Cannot recommend them enough 5-star service throughout.
They were very professional and hard working. I would 100% recommend.
They left my house in perfect condition. I couldn’t be happier with the work.
I have to say they were all first class. If only all trades people could be so professional.
The work carried out by SES has been brilliant, a really tidy neat job.

Solar panels – also known as solar photovoltaic (PV) panels – convert sunlight directly into electricity for your home. They are fitted to your roof, generate power throughout the day, and either feed surplus energy to a battery for later use or export it to the grid via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
Modern monocrystalline solar PV panels are slim, durable, and capable of generating meaningful power even on overcast days. They require no fuel, produce no emissions during use, and continue generating savings long after the installation cost has been recovered.
We have installed solar panel systems across Warwickshire, the West Midlands, and surrounding counties since 2010 – over 3,000 installations on homes ranging from two-bedroom terraces to five bedroom detached properties.
Not all solar panels perform equally. A premium monocrystalline system, designed for your specific roof and energy habits, will save significantly more over its lifetime than a standard-grade alternative – and will do so reliably, with fewer replacements or warranty issues along the way.
We work exclusively with SunPower Elite, Viridian Solar, SolarEdge, GivEnergy, DMEGC, SigEnergy and Tesla Energy (Powerwall). Every system is designed from scratch for the individual property. We do not offer standard packages, because no two homes have identical roofs, orientations, or energy patterns.
Our in-house installers have up to 10 years of individual installation experience. We are MCS certified – the government-backed quality scheme that makes your installation eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee. We are also members of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), which gives every residential customer the opportunity to benefit from robust consumer protections and independent support throughout their journey.
MCS Certification Number: NIC1758

Installed solar panel systems in the UK typically cost between £5,000 and £18,000, depending on system size, panel type, and whether battery storage is included. The table below gives indicative ranges for professionally installed systems.
These figures cover supply, installation, and commissioning of a standard solar solutions. Costs vary by roof type, property access, and the panels chosen. At Stratford Energy, we also typically install a battery, which significantly improves cost saving, payback period, and efficiency, Adding a battery storage unit – to store surplus energy for evening use – typically starts from £5,200.
All domestic solar panel installations in the UK currently carry 0% VAT, which reduces the effective cost compared to most other home improvements.
Several UK government schemes make solar panels more accessible and increase the financial return on your investment. These are the three most relevant for residential homeowners.

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
The Smart Export Guarantee, regulated by Ofgem, lets you sell surplus electricity back to the grid. Any MCS certified solar installation is eligible. Rates paid by energy suppliers vary, but SEG income adds to the savings your panels already generate through reduced bills.

0% VAT on Residential Solar
Solar panels installed on UK homes carry 0% VAT – a saving that brings down the upfront installation cost. This rate is in place until at least 2027.

Warm Homes Plan
The government’s Warm Homes Plan may offer further funding routes for solar and battery storage as the scheme develops. We will keep customers informed as eligibility details are confirmed. Yes – for most UK homeowners, solar panels offer a strong return on investment. Based on our installations across Warwickshire and the West Midlands, a typical 4-bedroom home saves £500– £700 per year on energy costs, with full payback of the installation in 5–7 years.
After that payback period, the system continues generating savings for the remainder of its 25–30 year lifespan – and does so without any fuel costs or ongoing fees. Adding battery storage can increase those savings further by reducing evening grid purchases.
Solar panels also reduce your exposure to energy price rises. Once installed, the electricity your panels generate costs you nothing – whatever the wholesale energy price does.
Typical annual saving
£500–£700 for a 4-bedroom home. Larger systems or homes with higher electricity usage can save £1,000+ per year.
Typical payback period
5–7 years for a premium solar PV system. Budget systems often take longer due to lower output.
Good fit if…
You own your home and have a south-, east-, or west-facing roof. Your electricity bill is £100 or more per month. You want to reduce long-term energy costs and are thinking about battery storage or an EV charger as part of a whole-home energy solution.
May not be the right time if…
Your roof faces north with heavy shading from trees or neighbouring buildings. You plan to move within 2–3 years – though solar does add measurable property value and transfer with the house.
Solar panels work well for most UK homes, but they are not the right fit for every property. Here is a straightforward guide to help you assess whether the timing is right.
Not sure? Our solar engineers offer a free, no-obligation site survey. We will give you an honest assessment of what your roof can generate and whether solar is genuinely worth it for your home. We will only recommend installation if it stacks up financially.
We install SunPower Elite and Viridian Solar panels exclusively – both monocrystalline products chosen for their efficiency, durability, and manufacturer warranty coverage. We do not install budget or standard-grade panels.

SunPower Maxeon cells have one of the lowest annual degradation rates of any solar panel on the market – losing less than 0.3% of output per year, compared to the industry average of around 0.8%.
This matters over a 25-year system life. A panel degrading at 0.3% annually still produces around 93% of its Day 1 output at year 25. A standard panel at 0.8% produces closer to 82%. Over thousands of kilowatt-hours, that difference is substantial.
SunPower Elite also tolerates temperature fluctuations better than standard panels – relevant for the varied climate conditions across the Midlands.
Viridian Solar panels are UK-engineered and designed specifically for British roof types and weather conditions. Their integrated mounting system reduces wind uplift risk and keeps installations clean and watertight.

There are three main types of solar PV panels installed on UK homes. Understanding the differences helps you make a confident decision.
We install monocrystalline panels exclusively, because they deliver the highest efficiency per square metre and the longest documented lifespan. For a typical UK roof – where space is not unlimited – monocrystalline is the practical and financial choice.
Thin-film panels are not suitable for most residential rooftops and are not part of our residential offering.
Most solar companies offer a catalogue of packages and fit you to the nearest option. We do not. Every system we design starts with your property: your roof, your orientation, your energy usage, and your financial goals. The system we propose for a 3-bedroom semi will be different from the one we propose for a 5-bedroom detached.
Bespoke Design on Every Project
Before we propose anything, our Sales Managers Georgia Howson and Andy Hollis will discuss your property, your energy habits, and what you are trying to achieve. The quotation you receive will be built for your home, not lifted from a brochure.
In-House MCS Certified Engineers
All installations are carried out by our own in-house engineers – not sub-contractors. Several members of our installation team have more than 10 years of individual installation experience. You know who is coming to your home, and we stand fully behind their work.
Premium Suppliers Only
We work with SolarEdge inverters, GivEnergy batteries, Tesla Powerwall, SunPower Elite, and Viridian Solar. These are not the cheapest components available – they are the ones that perform best over a 25-year system life and carry the strongest manufacturer warranties.
Warranties Up to 40 Years
Through our premium supplier partnerships, we can offer manufacturer warranties of up to 40 years on certain panel products. Our own workmanship warranty covers the quality of every installation for five years.
Accreditations That Protect You
We are MCS certified – certificate number NIC1758 – which means your installation qualifies for the Smart Export Guarantee and meets the UK government’s quality standard for microgeneration. We are also registered with the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), which provides independent dispute resolution for residential customers. We hold TrustMark government endorsement, NICEIC Domestic Installer and NICEIC Approved Contractor status, and QualityMark accreditation. We are a Living Wage Employer.
After installation, your system performance is visible in real time via a smartphone app. We monitor remotely and proactively schedule maintenance when the data indicates it is needed – rather than waiting for a fault call.

The right Solar System for you depends on your roof, your energy habits, and your goals. There are two ways to get started.

System size is measured in kilowatts (kW) and determines how much electricity your panels generate each day. The right size depends on your household electricity consumption, roof area, roof orientation, and budget.
A south-facing roof at 30–45 degrees gives the best output, but east- and west-facing roofs can still produce 15–20% less than south-facing. We account for orientation, shading, and local weather patterns when sizing every system.
Larger systems cost more upfront but deliver proportionally higher savings – so the payback period stays broadly similar across sizes. If your electricity bill is high, a larger system often makes more financial sense.

Solar panels require very little maintenance. There are no moving parts and no fuel to manage. The main tasks are keeping panels clean and monitoring system output.

Clean your panels once or twice a year using a soft brush and clean water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or high-pressure jets. In much of the UK, rainfall keeps panels reasonably clean between manual washes – but dust, pollen, and bird droppings can reduce output if left to accumulate.

Your system includes a smartphone monitoring app that shows daily generation, battery state, and export figures. Check it periodically to confirm output is consistent with seasonal expectations. If output drops noticeably during a sunny period, it is worth investigating.

We recommend a professional inspection every 3–5 years to check wiring, inverter performance, and roof fixings. Our team can arrange this – ask about our aftercare options when you book your installation.

Manufacturer warranties cover production defects. Premium panels should maintain 80% or more of their rated output over a 25-year period – your warranty documentation will specify the precise degradation guarantee for your chosen panels.
Our team provides ongoing remote monitoring and can proactively schedule maintenance visits when system data indicates it is needed. Ask about aftercare when you enquire.
These are the questions we are asked most often. If your question is not here, call us on 01789 262 411 or use the contact form.
Installed solar systems cost between £5,000 and £18,000 depending on system size and specification. A 4kW system for a 3-bedroom home typically costs £7,000–£9,500, including panels, inverter, mounting, and installation. Battery storage adds £2,000–£5,000. See the full pricing section above for a breakdown by system size.
Most premium solar panels are warranted for 25 years and continue generating beyond that. Through our supplier partnerships, some panel products carry warranties of up to 40 years. Our own 5-year workmanship warranty covers the installation itself.
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) pays you for surplus electricity exported to the grid. Domestic solar installations carry 0% VAT. The ECO4 scheme supports eligible low-income households. The government’s Warm Homes Plan may introduce further options. See the full grants section above for detail.
Most pitched roofs are suitable, including south-, east-, and west-facing orientations. North-facing roofs with heavy shading will generate significantly less. We assess every property individually during our free survey and will give you an honest view of what your roof can produce.
Most residential solar panel installations take one to two days. Battery storage can typically be added on the same visit. We agree a convenient date with you, and our engineers will leave your home tidy.
In most cases, no. Solar panels on a pitched roof are permitted development in England, Wales, and Scotland, provided the installation meets standard conditions – panels must not project more than 200mm beyond the roof plane and must not be installed above the highest part of the roof (excluding the chimney). If your property is a listed building or in a designated area, planning permission may be required. We will guide you through the process if needed.
Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. On overcast days they produce less than on sunny days, but they do not stop generating entirely. The UK’s diffuse light conditions are factored into our system sizing calculations – a properly sized system accounts for the full range of British weather.
Yes. Battery storage – from suppliers including Tesla Powerwall and GivEnergy – stores surplus energy generated during the day for use in the evening or on cloudy days. It is the most effective way to increase self-sufficiency and reduce grid electricity purchases. We can install battery storage alongside a new solar system or as a retrofit to an existing one.
For most homeowners, yes. A typical 4-bedroom home saves £500–£700 per year, with full payback in 5–7 years. The system then continues generating savings for the remainder of its 25–30 year lifespan. See the full ROI section above.
Every installation comes with our 5-year workmanship warranty, which covers defects arising from our installation. Equipment is covered by manufacturer warranties, which vary by product. Through our premium supplier partnerships, some panel products carry warranties of up to 40 years. We will facilitate any manufacturer warranty claims on your behalf.
Speak to Georgia or Andy – our Solar Sales Managers will assess your home and recommend a system that makes financial sense. There is no obligation and no hard sell. If solar is not right for your property, we will tell you.
