Recently, we (Stratford Energy Solutions) installed a system for a local school in Warwickshire, which is now on track to save £1 million through the SolarWatt Solar Panels we installed. Read the press release from SolarWatt below…

A Warwickshire school is set to make huge savings through a pioneering green energy project.

Stratford Energy is installing over 300 solar panels at Alcester Grammar, bringing major environmental and educational benefits.

The new system is expected to pay for itself within three years, meeting a third of the school’s energy needs and saving around £3,000 a month. The school will supply any unused electricity to the National Grid, generating additional income.

Alcester Grammar School Principal, Rachel Thorpe said: “This is a significant investment for the school, but the money spent will be recouped fairly quickly through utility cost savings. In addition, green energy will help to combat climate change and safeguard the future for all of us, especially our students.”

The school has already cut its energy usage by replacing 2,500 traditional light fittings with LED ones. Solar power will cut carbon dioxide emissions by over 20 tonnes annually, equivalent to planting 1,000+ trees.

The project costs over £100,000, with part of the funding coming from a Government energy efficiency grant. The school’s governors decided to use capital reserves to cover the remaining costs.

Few schools have embraced green energy on such a scale. Alcester Grammar chose Stratford Energy Solutions for their expertise in the field.

The company decided to install solar panels on the school’s sports hall, despite its curved roof.

The company’s Commercial Sales Manager Giles Pearce said: “This is the best location. It gives us some extra things to think about, but we love a challenge! The projected benefits of this project are really significant and show what Solar Power has to offer. We’re passionate about promoting the use of green energy and look forward to similar ventures with other schools.”

The project will also have an educational use. Digital screens in the school will display how much electricity we generate in real time.

The high-quality solar panels handle all weather conditions, meet international standards, and withstand ammonia, light degradation, salt mist, and high voltages. Produced by SOLARWATT, they come with a 25-year guarantee.

During that period, we predict the school will cut its energy costs by well over £1 million. The carbon saved every year will be more than that produced by a car driving four times around the Earth.

Neal Goddard, SOLARWATT’s Managing Director, said: “Public sector and educational authorities consistently choose our panels for their exceptional quality, performance and comprehensive warranties.”

“We’re thrilled to be part of this project and highly impressed by the ingenuity demonstrated by our partners, Stratford Energy, in installing our panels on a cambered roof. Given the huge savings involved, we hope other schools will consider taking this important step.”

We’ve scheduled the installation work to take place during Alcester Grammar’s two-week half-term. The school will begin generating solar power as soon as we complete the work in early November.
