Solar battery storage costs in the UK are driven primarily by system capacity. The larger the battery, the more it costs to supply and install — but the more energy it can store and the faster it pays for itself. The table below gives typical installed price ranges for common system sizes in 2026, including supply, installation, and commissioning.
| System Size | Typical Installed Cost | Best Suited To |
|---|---|---|
| Small (5kWh) | £2,000 - £4,000 | Smaller homes; supplementing an existing solar setup |
| Medium (10 - 13.5kWh) | £4,500 - £8,000 | Average family homes with moderate solar generation |
| Large (13.5kWh) | £8,000 - £10,000 + | Larger homes; maximum selfsufficiency; backup power |
To put cost in context: the average cost of solar battery storage per kWh of usable capacity currently sits at approximately £400–£700/kWh installed, depending on brand and system size. Premium brands at the higher end of that range offer longer warranties, higher efficiency, and better software integration — all of which affect the long-term value of the system, not just the upfront price.
Additional costs may apply for consumer unit upgrades, longer cable runs between the battery location and the consumer unit, or scaffolding where roof access is required. We identify any of these at your free site survey and include them in your written quote before any work begins.
Since February 2024, standalone home battery storage systems qualify for 0% VAT in the UK — a saving equivalent to 20% of the supply cost. Your quote from us reflects this relief.
Six factors have the most influence on what you will pay for a home solar battery system. Understanding them helps you compare quotes accurately and make a confident decision.

For most homeowners with solar panels — or those planning to install them — yes. A solar and battery system used together can reduce energy bills by up to 80%, with typical annual savings in the range of £600–£900 depending on system size, household consumption, and energy tariff.
At those saving rates, a mid-range system typically reaches full return on investment within five to eight years. Most batteries carry warranties of 10 years or more, meaning the financial benefit continues well beyond the payback point. The financial benefits do not stop there. Once the system has paid for itself, the savings continue year after year with reduced energy bills, greater energy independence, and protection against future energy price rices.
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) adds a further income stream. Pairing battery storage with solar panels allows you to hold generation until evening export rates are at their highest, rather than exporting immediately at lower daytime rates — increasing your SEG earnings compared to a solar-only setup.

0% VAT on Battery Storage
Since February 2024, standalone home battery storage systems qualify for 0% VAT in the UK. This brings the effective cost of a battery system down by the equivalent of 20% compared to the previous standard VAT rate. Your quote from us already reflects this saving.

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
The Smart Export Guarantee requires licensed energy suppliers to pay you for surplus electricity exported to the grid. Any MCS-certified battery installation is SEG-eligible. Adding battery storage to a solar system increases your SEG income by allowing you to choose when to export — storing cheap daytime generation and exporting during peak evening periods when rates are higher.
Most homeowners come to us for one of three reasons. Understanding which applies to you shapes which system we recommend.

Maximise What Your Solar Panels Generate
Every unit of solar energy your panels generate that you do not use immediately is exported to the grid — often at rates considerably lower than what you pay to buy electricity back in the evening. A home battery captures that surplus generation and holds it until you need it: in the evening, overnight, or on the following overcast day. For a south-facing roof generating a surplus through the summer months, this alone…

Charge at Night, Save All Day
Smart tariffs such as Octopus Go and OVO Beyond offer significantly cheaper electricity overnight — sometimes as low as 7p per kWh, compared to 24p or more during peak daytime hours. A home battery can be programmed to charge from the grid during these cheap overnight windows and discharge during expensive peak periods. This approach works even without solar panels. If you are on a time-of-use tariff, a battery lets you arbitrage the price…

Keep Your Home Running During a Grid Outage
The Tesla Powerwall 3 systems can provide backup power during a grid outage. The Tesla Powerwall 3 switches to backup mode automatically within milliseconds — most households do not notice the transition at all. Lights, sockets, and appliances keep running while your neighbours lose power. This is particularly relevant for homes with medical equipment, home offices where downtime is costly, or properties in areas…
Yes — and it is one of the most common installations we carry out. If your solar panels are currently exporting surplus energy to the grid at low daytime rates, a battery is the most direct way to capture that value and use it in your own home rather than selling it cheaply.
Most modern battery systems are compatible with existing solar installations, but an inverter compatibility check is always needed before we install. There are two approaches:

We supply and install two premium battery brands: Tesla Powerwall and SigenStor. Both are MCS-certified, both qualify for 0% VAT, and both are covered by our 5-year workmanship warranty. The right choice depends on your home size, energy habits, and priorities.
The Tesla Powerwall 3 is the market-leading home battery storage system for capacity, power output, and software integration. As a Tesla Premium Installer — one of a limited number authorised to supply and fit Powerwall systems in the UK — our engineers are trained and certified directly by Tesla, and every Powerwall installation meets Tesla’s own quality requirements.
The Powerwall 3 integrates solar input, battery storage, and home energy management in a single unit — which makes the installation cleaner and more efficient than earlier gateway-plus-battery configurations. Its automatic backup switching is the most capable of anything we install: the transition happens in milliseconds, with no manual intervention needed.
Ideal for: Larger homes wanting maximum self-sufficiency; homeowners who want seamless app integration and home-whole energy monitoring; customers who want automatic backup power during grid outages.
SigenStor is an all-in-one energy storage platform designed for homeowners who want more than just battery storage. Combining battery storage, a hybrid inverter, EV charging capability and energy management software within a single ecosystem, it offers a highly integrated solution for households looking to maximise self-consumption and future-proof their energy setup.
SigenStor’s modular architecture allows battery capacity to be expanded as household energy demands change, while its intelligent energy management platform continuously optimises how and when electricity is stored, used or exported. The system’s integrated design reduces the need for multiple standalone devices and simplifies ongoing management through a single app, making it particularly attractive for households looking to take greater control of their energy costs and energy independence.
Ideal for: Homeowners investing in a complete smart energy system; properties planning to combine solar, battery storage and EV charging; customers who value advanced energy management and long-term flexibility.

Most lithium-ion home battery systems are rated for 4,000–6,000 charge cycles, equating to roughly 10–15 years of daily use. In practice, a well-maintained system from a premium brand typically performs reliably beyond its rated cycle life.
LiFePO4 chemistry — generally offers a longer rated cycle life than standard lithium-ion and degrades more slowly over time. This makes it worth considering if longevity is a primary concern.

For context: most SES customers reach full return on investment within five to eight years. A 10-year warranty means your system is still covered by the manufacturer after payback, and the savings it generates beyond that point are pure financial return.
For a £2,000–£10,000 investment, spreading the cost makes practical sense for many homeowners.

Solar battery storage typically costs between £2,000 and £10,000 installed, depending on battery capacity and brand. A 5kWh entry-level system starts from around £2,000–£4,000 installed. A premium 13.5kWh system such as the Tesla Powerwall 3 is typically priced from £8,000–£10,000 installed. All systems currently qualify for 0% VAT. We provide a personalised, itemised quote after a free site survey.
For most homeowners with solar panels, yes. A typical solar and battery system reduces energy bills by up to 80%, with annual savings typically between £600 and £900. Most systems reach full return on investment within five to eight years, and continue generating savings beyond that under the cover of manufacturer warranties.
Most lithium-ion home battery systems are rated for 4,000–6,000 charge cycles, equating to around 10–15 years of typical daily use. The Tesla Powerwall 3 carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty. Premium build quality means well-maintained systems often perform reliably beyond their rated cycle life.
The right size depends on your household’s evening electricity consumption and your solar panel output. A 5kWh battery suits smaller homes or those supplementing moderate solar generation. A 10kWh system fits most average family homes. Larger homes — or those wanting meaningful backup capacity — are better served by a 13.5kWh+ system. We size every system to your specific property and energy data, not a generic template.
There is no direct government grant for standalone battery storage for most homeowners at present, but two significant financial benefits apply. Battery storage has qualified for 0% VAT since February 2024, reducing the supply cost by the equivalent of 20%. MCS-certified installations also unlock Smart Export Guarantee income, allowing you to earn from surplus solar energy exported to the grid at favourable rates.
Most home battery storage installations are completed in a single day. Where additional electrical work is required — such as a consumer unit upgrade or a more involved retrofit to an existing solar system — the job may take up to two days. We confirm timescales when we book your installation date.
Yes. A home battery can charge from the grid on a cheap overnight tariff and discharge during expensive peak periods, reducing bills without any solar generation. However, the greatest financial benefit and the fastest return on investment come from pairing battery storage with solar panels. We can discuss a solar-only, battery-only, or combined system depending on your priorities.
Battery storage works best as part of a joined-up home energy setup. Here are the two services that most commonly sit alongside it.

Solar Panels
Generate the energy your battery stores. We design and install bespoke solar PV systems sized to your roof and your household’s consumption profile, using SunPower Elite and Viridian Solarpanels exclusively.

EV Charging
Charge your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle from energy your panels generate and your battery stores. We supply and fit Zappi, Andersen, Easee Home, and Tesla Wall Connector chargers across the Midlands.
Speak to Georgia or Andy — our Sales Managers will assess your home and recommend the right battery system for your energy habits, budget, and long-term goals. No obligation, no hard sell. If battery storage is not the right fit for your property right now, they will tell you.
Call 01789 262 411 — or use the contact form or online system builder to get started. Quotations are valid for 45 days. A 14-day cooling-off period applies on all residential contracts.
